About

Dominique Flores is a ceramic artist based in New York City whose work explores ecology, material, and process through a blend of functional and sculptural forms. Drawing inspiration from plants, animals, and the interdependent systems that sustain them, her practice reflects an ongoing interest in symbiotic relationships and the quiet complexity of the natural world.

Flores began her ceramic training at the Ottawa School of Art, where she completed four semesters of hand-building coursework between 2019 and 2020. There, she developed a strong foundation in slab construction, coiling, pinching, and surface exploration. After relocating to New York City in 2021, she returned to clay with a renewed focus on long-term studio practice and technical growth.

From 2023 to 2024, Flores maintained an open studio membership at Clay Space, focusing on independent practice and technical growth. She continued this trajectory in 2025 through an open studio membership at Betty’s Ceramics, further refining her approach to form and process. Since April 2024, Flores has been actively involved with the Educational Alliance Art School, where she serves as a Volunteer Ceramic Technician while completing coursework in both hand-building and wheel-throwing.

Flores is currently completing a ceramics apprenticeship at the Educational Alliance Art School. The apprenticeship emphasizes material science, technical training, studio safety, and community-based studio operations. Through weekly lectures, hands-on technical work, and weekend open studio monitoring, she has expanded her knowledge of clay bodies, glazes, kiln processes, and studio maintenance, while continuing to develop her own ceramic practice.

In addition to her studio work, Flores is deeply engaged in arts education and community outreach. She volunteers with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Education Department, assisting in the 81st Street Studio and supporting children’s classes and camps. This educational work informs her artistic practice, reinforcing the importance of accessibility, shared knowledge, and collective making.

Flores’ work moves fluidly between vessels and tableware, balancing utility with sculptural presence. Through careful attention to surface, form, and material, she seeks to create objects that invite touch, reflection, and a deeper awareness of the interconnected relationships found in nature.
